"Color Theory: a brief practical theory class"

This is a one day color theory class, (no felt making). Students learn approachable and creative use of color, how to develop a
fully complex and joyful color combination, a process I developed over a career of textile design and being a professional colorist.
The course uses practical verbiage rather than the science of color, it gets students thinking outside their comfort zone and the best lesson of all, how to translate what inspires you to a workable joyful palette.
BRING WITH YOU: If you are more comfortable: your personal journaling supplies, paper scissors, glue sticks or tape, colored pencils or watercolors. All of these will be supplied for the class.

"Felt Ottoman"

This is a three day class where all aspects of
design, color and felt making come together,
and even a bit of furniture building and upholstery!
Students design two coordinated fabric designs,
spend the first day laying out their designs.
The second day is all wet felting. The fabrics
dry over night and on the third day students
assemble their new ottoman. Patterned felt making
techniques are reviewed, but this class is best for
felt makers of some experience. Students should
also be able to handle light power tools and a sewing
machine. Hand sewing is also part of the finishing.

Students choose colors for their ottomans before
arriving in the studio, some come with ideas
already developed, some come with a picture,
some a room it will go in. The process really
begins when you sign up for the class,
and I speak with each student about the "look"
and how to choose colors and a few other things.
Often we spend time during the first day working
out design elements, stylizing, and balance.
It's just part of the full experience.

***Previous felt making experience necessary, as well as the ability to use power tools, and sewing machines. Student may use prefinished wooden feet, casters or pre paint your feet before arriving to the Festive Fibers studio.

BRING WITH YOU: Shoes/clothing which may get wet/dyed.
TUITION: $650.00 includes all materials (We can ship your ottoman home to you, students pay for shipping)
LUNCHES: Are not included. There is a deli in the village square, an easy walk to pick up a sandwich, or pizza/sub shop a mile down the road. Feel free to Brown Baggit. A light refreshment and beverages will be served.

"Designing and Felting Coordinated Upholstery Fabrics"

People have often asked me how I get my colors and designs so clear and bold...or even how did I think of the combinations of designs I use in a grouping? This class is pulled right from my personal experience as a textile designer, when for so many years, I created printed coordinated fabric lines for home furnishing companies in New York City. So much of what I teach is what I learned about combining colors and pattern, but in a very approachable and easy to apply philosophy.

Day 1: Design and Layout. This day is a very progressive day all about design, concepts for developing a coordinated story, with brief discussion on color balance and pattern density to create coordinating fabrics. The majority of the day is spent in laying out the felts to wet felt on the second day, I will demonstrate various techniques for laying out fiber for upholstery weight weight felt....

Day 2: Felt Wet felt is all about wet felting and various techniques I have learned and used over the years.
